Bush Says Tax Cut Will Help Animals May 4th, 2001
WASHINGTON, DC -- Speaking on Bush's behalf, Vice President Cheney showed a picture of a family of squirrels living in an oak tree in a live 20/20 interview. "Look at this working class squirrel family. They barely have enough savings to last the winter. Mr. Bush wants his tax cut to help the animals for which he cares so deeply." Cheney later gave his "personal assurances that the average American family of rodents has as much to gain from the Bush tax cut as does the average working class American family."
Environmental groups who have bombarded Bush with criticism over his policies cautiously endorsed the proposal. "I always said we should look at things from the animals' point of view," said a PETA representative. "I guess I should have tried to find out what that point of view actually was."
