Spacewalkers Install Roll Bars, Floodlights On ISS April 16th, 2002
CAPE CANAVERAL, FL -- A pair of astronauts from the space shuttle Atlantis are beginning the fifth spacewalking mission to install a roll cage and 40,000 watts of floodlights on the International Space Station.
The floating laboratory is being slowly assembled in space by its 16 member nations over a five year period.
"These roll bars will provide crucial support during rollover accidents," explained NASA chief engineer Jeff Brigs. "And the floodlights -- well, I suppose those are really just for show."
