Some Team Nobody Ever Heard Of Wins The World SeriesNovember 5th, 2001
PHOENIX, AZ -- Last night a team apparently called the "Arizona Diamondbacks" stunned onlookers by actually winning baseball's World Series.
"They wore jerseys and hats, like other teams," said one spectator. "I can't quite remember their name, but it had something to do with a lizard or a fish or something." The expansion team hadn't even existed when the Yankees began their long streak of World Series wins. "The just showed up at the field one day," said Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens. "I think they wanted us to play them or something. I'm not sure what happened." If the fabled New York team had won the game, they would have tied the record for most consecutive Series wins ever. "The Razorbacks or whatever," said Yankees manager Joe Torre, rubbing his eyes, "said they came from some city in Arizona, of all places. I just wish they had kept to that godforsaken place and not bothered us." |
