CHICAGO -- Speaking to a crowd of thousands of workers at Chicago's busy O'Hare international airport in an aim to boost confidence in the flagging airline industry, President George W. Bush assured Americans that
flights are safe and that they
can be shot down.
"We have nothing to fear, we must get back to the business of running America," said Bush to a cheering crowd. He listed many security improvements in the works to make flying safer and authorized low-level Air Force Generals to shoot down civilian flights if neccessary.
The entire airline industry is at risk of failure as Americans cut back travel plans in the wake of the September 11th attacks.
